In connection with the 25th anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, our founder, Jacqueline Murekatete, was interviewed by Facing Today, a blog by Facing History and Ourselves. Facing History and Ourselves combats racism and antisemitism by using history to teach tolerance in classrooms around the globe.
In her interview with Kaitlin Smith, Ms. Murekatete spoke about Genocide Survivors Foundation’s efforts to prevent further genocide and support survivors, as well as the importance of speaking out about the current rise of antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and other forms of extremism. Jaqueline reiterated the importance of people speaking up and being upstanders instead of bystanders in the face of extremism or mass atrocity crimes.
